WHAT is Proven selections?

The Proven Selections brand is a collection of plants offered from Proven Winners propagators, which compliment the Proven Winners brand creating greater opportunity for brokers, growers, retailers and consumers.

Why have a secondary brand?

Proven Winners plant criteria is very rigid regarding the agreed upon plants that may be included. There are many plants on the market or that were offered by each Proven Winners propagator, which did not always meet the criteria of becoming Proven Winners.

Because of this criteria set in the very beginning by the partners of Proven Winners, there were many plants which each of the partners grew that had no marketing or promotion behind them. What began to happen early on, was the creation of many brands under which to market these other plants. Each new program at that time had a separate look, smaller promotion, limited retail support, and began creating confusion amongst brokers, grower and even retailers.

I recall speaking with a retailer at the OFA show many, many moons ago, who stated "I wish I had a program to to go along with Proven Winners, with a similar look, and included all the other genera not included in Proven Winners so that I can merchandise it all together in one area, offering a complete selection of plants.". Well, I can't confirm if this statement actually caused Proven Selections to become, but ultimately that defines the value of Proven Selections and what over time it ultimately became.

Proven Selections plants sometimes include items such as:

• Genera not offered within the Proven Winners brand
• Plants which we feel are already the best of the best on the market
• Plants which all 3 Proven Winners partners do not agree should be Proven Winners (part of the PW criteria for national performance)
• Plants that are non-exclusive to Proven Winners
• Regionally specific plants for that propagator.
• Plants which that propagator has the greatest environments in which to produce that genus.
